The Amazon Forest used to be a safe haven for the numerous indigenous tribes native to Brazil; the rainforest itself — larger than many countries — acting as a natural buffer between them and the modern world. Plenty, to this day, live on without knowledge of the outside world — of the advances in technology made by man. In Brazil, strict rules and regulations are kept in place for researches and other men of science who delve into the Amazon in the name of research; a vast number of them are made to preserve the ‘innocence’ of those indigenous communities.

    For most, like loggers, fishers, or farmers, those laws mean nothing; they go about their daily activities not venturing within the deep, uncharted territory where the aboriginals reside. For some those laws mean everything, as it’s precisely thanks to their restrictions that they earn a living — human traffickers, drug smugglers, deforesters; they take advantage of either the uncharged territory to create routes to and from safe houses, or simply take advantage of the naive natives through various means.

    Wei seems to have grown unstable since that revelation; guilt and anger seem to have stoked the Amazon, causing her to be even more belligerent than before. She seems to be keenly aware that it was her incessant delinquency into motion the events that will now have her family deported to China, while she is now bound to Kessho Reform Academy. It is anyone’s guess if the family will remain in contact. As unfortunate as this is, neither the transgressions of her family as well as Tanis’ own criminal history cannot be overlooked.
