★ AMBITIOUS. Driven by an innate desire to succeed, very little stands in the way of Renato’s goals. Although not ambitious in a conventional sense, the nineteen-year-old excels at whatever he sets his sights on. His tumultuous youth has, ironically enough, done him well by instilling a staunch work ethic and an indomitable fighting spirit. Nothing can hold him down — not even life itself.

★ CHARISMATIC. Despite all his shortcomings, the redhead is by nature absurdly charming — when he isn’t angry, of course. He’s a people-person, and while rarely anything much less anyone holds his interest for very long, he can sure make the other feel like they’re the only person in the world to him. That being said, he has a magnetic, enticing quality to him that others could only hope to replicate. Too bad about his short fuse, though.

★ LOYAL. It takes immense effort to befriend this teenage hellion, undoubtedly, but once a person is able to worm their way into his inner circle, they’ll find that their efforts are well worth it. The few strong relationships that Renato does have are cherished immensely, and regardless of relation or age, he’ll treat them like his own flesh and blood. He’ll ride with them to the depths of hell and beyond, and he’ll even lay down his life for them when the moment calls for it. Renato is the type to go along with their antics no matter how absurd they may be and give them his full support while doing so. The catch, however? He expects you to extend the same courtesy to him — humor his wild ideas and show your undying support while doing so.

★ RESILIENT. Although every experiences their own fair share of hardships throughout their lives, what separates Renato from the others is his ability to bounce back from adversity with absolute ease. The Italian isn’t the type to wallow in his own pathetic cesspool of pity and tears — no, he’s the type to take life by its ghastly horns and forcefully steer it his way. Every misfortune is an opportunity to grow, or so he believes, and very rarely does anything ever truly affects him personally. Nothing can get to him — not even life itself.

★ SYMPATHETIC. Renato is not as much of a jackass as he makes himself out to be. He is inconsiderate, sure, and perhaps even a little bit a lot, actually of a douche, he’s rather sympathetic to the plights of others. Children and women in particular are his weak spot, and true to his ‘look at me, I’m so macho’ persona, he goes above and beyond to help them — or anyone in need, really — without asking for so much as a ‘thank you’ in return. Unfortunately, however, this often makes him an easy target for con artists.

just a few notes to myself for when i actually get to writing his backstory

- grew up in sicily, italy.

- family came from old money; several relatives held high positions in society.

- they were kinda corrupt tho.

- surprise, surprise, family was also (vaguely) linked to the flipping mafia (cliché amirite).

- renato was always a wild child. probably bc of his genes or smthn. (let's just say that his dad was absurdly familiar with the criminal justice system.) he was detained (but not arrested) several times throughout his early teen years for minor offenses.

- renato was always kind of involved in shady dealings tbh. he used to rip off his classmates all the time in school. still does now, sorta.

- was also the jackass that liked to fight everybody in class. very tempermental. unsurprisingly, boxing is one of his favorite past times.

- he was a very violent child. this combined with his short-temper led to several altercations with his classmates throughout the years. as such, he has several assault and battery charges on his file and has had to move schools several times throughout his life.

- for the most part, he was a rebellious child with no express purpose or goal in life.

- family friend recruited him to join the sicilian mafia when he was sixteen. renato accepted and became involved in some (even more) shady dealings.

- his academic performance in school was always relatively poor, but it worsened when he began acquainting himself with mafioso. he was held back not once, not twice, but thrice. (had things gone the right way, he should have graduated from 'high school' in italy by now).

- he was initiated into the cosa nosta shortly before his seventeenth birthday.

- two years in, renato was arrested during a house raid by the police. a spy was in their midst, and he and several of his fellow associates (and a few higher-ups) were arrested.

- due to his family's pleading and efforts, he was able to evade a lengthy prison sentence and was instead sent to a massive reform school in japan to be 'resocialized'.

- has an older sister between 21 - 25 that thoroughly enjoys nagging and picking on him (or so he believes). despite their differences, they're actually p close.

- is highkey upset that japan's drinking age is 20. always tries to sneak booze into his dorm room but eventually gets caught when he drinks himself into a mess.

- his right eye is a prosthetic eye. while he likes to say that he lost it in a feud with a rival mafia family member, the truth is that some jackass stabbed him in the eye with a fork during a food fight in middle school. to be fair tho, ren deserved it, because he always stole that kid's lunch money. karma is a bitch.

- he also liked to occasionally plop out that prosthetic eye for shits and giggles. it's not very popular with the ladies. so he usually keeps this little habit to himself.

- fairly tall. he stands at 5'11" ft or 180 centimeters for all you metric system lovers. lowkey enjoys it when girls ask him to reach stuff for them. highkey dislikes it when people ask how's the weather up there. always retorts with a backhanded compliment.

- he is a momma's boy, partially because he does love her dearly and partially because he's terrified of her.

- his dad, on the other hand, is a pushover. he likes pulling practical jokes on his old man, because he knows that he won't get reprimanded for it.

- he's actually fairly intelligent and is knowledgeable about many subjects. sadly, none of those subjects are in any way related to his schoolwork.
