Yuko Romanov grew up in a moderately sized village located in the Ural mountain range. She grew up learning to survive off the land, as well as how to hold her own in a fight. When she came of age, she followed her father's path by joining the military. She aced every test, both physical and mental. The only problem was her attitude. She was quick to talk back to her superiors, the first to challenge another to a fight, and the last person standing when fists were done being thrown. She lasted roughly three years in the military before she was discharged for breaking her superior's jaw.[break][break]
Almost immediately upon being ejected from government military, she was picked up by a mercenary group. This group was almost strictly illegal, but acquired every kind of job. Basic battlefield combat missions, retrieving information from one party for another, political assassination; there were a great many jobs to be had in a world bent on chaos. After a few decades with this group, Yuko took a mission that she'd regret. Fighting for a small group of soldiers in China against a government sponsored army. She and her allies were outnumbered 20 to 1. With superior tactics, and a few better guns, Yuko managed to reign victorious on that battlefield, but for the cost of her eye and ability to walk properly.[break][break]
She was sent home by her mercenary group with a pat on the back. When she returned home, however, the Russian military was waiting for her. She was tried for desertion through a technicality in her discharge paperwork, along with several other charges the government had racked up over the years. As a final act to help her, the mercenary group's leader pulled a few strings and got Yuko sent to this god awful reform academy. Whether this academy was better than the death penalty, Yuko is still unsure of.
