Flipping out the lights, trying to survive this endless fight @none, none The school layout should have been straightforward, At least there was a map of the hallways in front of Oliver, It explained all everything, but the first day of classes never made sense to anybody. Juniper ran off to find somebody, but Oliver was pretty certain at this point that one of the following scenarios had happened: A) She became lost, now he'd have to find her. B) Somebody looked at her the wrong way, he'd hear about her detention later. C) Both.
"thanks Juniper" Oliver mumbled under his breath, while continuing to look at his schedule and the rooms before him.
the next thing that didn't help him, he had no clue how Japanese school systems worked. Only through the clips he watched from cartoons as a child, but those were westernized to be easier to understand. It almost looked like he'd have to reach out to somebody, which was a gamble. Would the person be nice enough to point him in the right direction, or would they be a new enemy?
reaching out his hand and lightly grabbing the clothes on the passerby, making sure it was gentle. There was no need to initiate a fight for such insufficient information, he just needed them to stop and help him.
"hello, I'd hate to bother you. Do you have a minute?" Oliver asked as he glanced over at the stranger, he quickly scanned their face before asking the next question.
"You wouldn't happen to know where homeroom is?" Oliver questioned, showing them the piece of paper with his information.

| Life at this new school was going to be a mixed bag. On the one hand, it was a shiny new adventure with countless possibilities. On the other, he was in a prison surrounded by violent students and guarded by a small army. He may have hoped that the latter wouldn't be too much of an issue, but his current plans practically ensured they would be. Hands were stuffed into the pockets of his uniform pants as he slowly walked the halls, lips pursed as he scanned the environment. There had to be some sort of kink in the security around here, one he could take advantage of without anyone knowing. The vandal would do anything for a pair of hover skates and a can of spray paint at this point.
His attempts at casing the joint were suddenly interrupted by a tug at his sleeve, causing him to immediately stop in his tracks. Brows rose as he turned his head to look at the stranger with a curious expression. "Need somethin' friend?" Part of him expected to get a swift punch to the face as soon as he looked at the guy. Instead he was met with a question, one that he himself didn't have a proper answer to. Maybe he could bullshit the guy and send him on a wild goose chase. That'd be funny. Eyes turned upward as he let out a thoughtful hum, pondering the different places he could send the guy. As his cogs turned a fantastic new idea came into his mind. Maybe instead of being an ass to a potential new friend, he should just not be an ass.
Shelby's gaze fell back down to Oliver, a wide smile on his face as he reached out to put a hand on his fellow student's shoulder. "Better idea! Especially since you look like a pretty smart guy." It was probably just the glasses, to be honest. "Why don't you and I skip class all together? Not like we're gonna learn anything useful in this dump." He shook the lost student's shoulder a bit as he spoke, hoping to infuse him with the same enthusiasm he felt for playing hooky. With this guy's glasses and his speed, they could get out of here no problem! |

Flipping out the lights, trying to survive this endless fight When the other student genuinely smiled, Oliver was a little taken aback. Who the hell smiled here? This place was like a void, nobody was happy to be here unless there was something wrong in the head… There was the possibility he was afraid, he didn't know Oliver. After all, the Canadian had just plucked him out of the crowd of possibly homicidal students.
Listening to the other begin to ramble about how Oliver had looked smart, which was a fact… Granted, he was certain it was stereotyping his farsightedness. When he attended school in Canada, his grades were acceptable by all means. Of course, this guy didn’t know that at all. Except he mentioned the two of them ditching class, which made him knit his brows together.
Did this kid forget they were in the strictest school Tokyo had to offer.
"Skip Class?" Oliver repeated to make sure the other had heard his proposal, before shaking his head.
"I don't know if you're aware, but this is Alcatraz Jr. edition. Any ditching will likely lead us to more trouble" he pointed out, of course he knew that this didn’t stop the students. The guy shook from his grasp which Oliver allowed, he already had him standing and giving him his time.
Actually, who the hell was the guy he plucked from the crowd. It was possible, he had been here far longer than Oliver. There was a possibility that he had known the place better… No, then the student would have just sent him to the homeroom.
"I'm sure you need to know where homeroom is too, you can't spend the entire time skipping class" he mentioned, frowning a bit.
Losing Juniper and gaining the new guy, well this guy needed a name rather than new guy.
"my name is Oliver, what's your name?"

| Arms crossed in disappointment, lips pressing together into a flat line as Oliver spoke. Was he really so scared of this place? The people, the teachers and the guards were all potentially dangerous, sure. But Alcatraz? This guy really had the fear instilled into him. Maybe he was one of those scaredy cat nerds who was scarred by bullies before even being sent here. Ooooh maybe this was one of those kids who snapped and shot up a school. Shelby made a quick mental note to be careful around this guy before giving a response. He needed to extra careful not to piss this one off.
The vandal tapped his foot, letting out another thoughtful hum before giving Ollie a playful smile. "Alcatraz, huh? So you think we should build a raft?" It was a little difficult to tell if he was joking or not, the hint of excitement in his eyes betraying his joking smile. The only clear thing was his lack of fear, be it of the students or faculty.
"You don't get it, do you? This isn't a prison, it's a school. You think they could really get away with doing any sort of serious punishment?" Shelby shrugged, stuffing his hands into his jacket pockets with a smug smile. He had the face of a man who had it all figured out, though where that was true or not had yet to bee seen. "The worst we'll get is a slap on the wrist and some time in detention. That 'ISS' place is reserved for psychos. Don't you see it? Skipping class is the greatest way to express our freedom! So yeah, I'll be skipping a lot."
Living in fear just didn't sound too appealing. Even if it meant he had to live in denial, he would never give up his freedom. Fingers snapped before pointing at Oliver, looking him dead in the eyes as he spoke. "Oliver. Got it. Good name. Mine's Shelby." He paused after speaking, a sudden realization striking him. Here, he didn't have to hide who he was. He could share his work with the world, there was no reason not to! Finally people could realize how cool he really was. "But most people know me back home as Edge." A cool name fit for a cool guy.

Flipping out the lights, trying to survive this endless fight Shelby Cooper , sorry this is late. o a o work has been murdering my time! when he asked to build a raft, he shook his head. They didn’t have a large body of water to cross, the raft would just be a laborious project without any fruits to benefit from.
"There's a bridge, but we’d probably get caught before we made it on the monorail… Not to mention, unless you know Japanese, I imagine navigating the city is going to be really difficult" Oliver pointed out, he missed the entire idea of this being a joke or sarcasm.
Oliver halted, he finally caught on that he was joking before lightly pushing up his glasses. When he brought up that this was a school and not a prison, he frowned as he really had been mislead someplace.
"It’s a school full of children who have screwed up so bad, their country or family sent them here to be reformed… I suppose it’s more like a military school without the military implications" Oliver pointed out, although kind of wondering why some kids didn’t end up in a military reform school.
mentioning about the ISS, he actually didn’t catch that half of the school. Except strung together it must have been isolation or something like that, Oliver didn’t want to meet any of those bat shit kids… When the other informed him of his name, then included the nickname. It was rather silly, 'Edge.' Oliver made mental note, that would be the easiest way to butter this boy up.
"Well edge, If we do skip class, what exactly are we going to do?" Oliver asked tilting his head.
was he actually humoring this idea? Juniper would cheer, but also wonder who replaced their wet blanket twin. Granted, Oliver was actually a tad curious what would happen when you 'skipped' a class. Would you be forced to stay in school longer? Would you go to detention? What was the point of detention, the entire place already acted like one.
"Actually, library… If they have a library here, you can easily slip into there and they’ll assume you're there for a study period or research project. There will likely be computers and internet, so you wouldn’t be bored with books"
oliver was beginning to quickly piece together edges’ interests.

| Shelby watched as the guy over analyzed his joke, expression shifting to reflect a mixture of amusement and confusion. Well at least he was right about this guy being smart, maybe even a bit too smart. Maybe he could help this guy learn to live a little, think more creatively instead of being so literal. He was willing to bet four eyes here was a real good numbers guy, probably lacking in the art department. "Well gosh darn it. I guess that plan just doesn't hold water." The corner of his lip tugged upward as he teased Oliver, shoulders raising in an exaggerated shrug.
At least the guy was optimistic about their current situation. It may have been better to think of it as a reform school. But that's not what his father told him when he was shipped over. Then again that old fogey was full of empty threats so it wouldn't be too surprising if he was misinformed. Though no matter how optimistic he was, there were just a few things that tilted the scales into the 'prison' category. "How many 'reform schools' do you know with an arena for the students to duke it out without punishment? I've never heard of a school with a fight pit." He remembered when he first saw the arena and how shocked he was to hear of it's rules. Why would anyone ever set foot in there?
Hands clapped together as Oliver finally came around to his way of thinking, the glow of excitement returning to his face. It felt a bit odd being called Edge since no one back home was willing to actually use the name. But it was the kind of odd he could definitely get used to. "It doesn't matter where we go, Ollie. It's about being free! Going where you want, when you want." In his mind skipping class was a statement that he refused to be controlled by the school, something he planned on making clear to the bums that ran the place. Being anywhere he wasn't supposed to be would be a victory in his book. Anywhere but the library at least.
The proposed plan immediately sucked the life from Shelby's face, eyelids drooping along with his smile. "You mean we just hide in the library? And read? Besides, I tried the terminal in my dorm. The access is crazy limited. Unless..." He paused and suddenly perked up, looking at Oliver with a glint of hope in his eyes. Of course! Why didn't he think of it before? Smart glasses guy in a place like him would only be sent here for one reason. The vandal checked the surroundings for teachers before leaning in close, lowering his voice to a whisper. "Are you a hacker?"

Flipping out the lights, trying to survive this endless fight "Not many schools have that… Honestly, it’s surprising that it is legal. I guess there is some loophole in the law system" Oliver admitted, he couldn’t help but frown a little.
The other seemed to beam with delight in Oliver’s flattery, but that wasn’t really anything new. This guy had been all smiles since they met, but his lack of ideas in where to go was alarming. If students just wandered the halls, they’d be caught and… Possibly put into the Arena, what if it was used as a weird form of punishment and betting ring for teachers. Oliver would have to remember that, possibly investigate those claims too. There was likely a few people around the school that knew of some sort of underground betting ring, then he could expose it.
The place would be shut down, but he’d have to find out Japanese gambling laws too. It meant a lot of research would have to be sunk into this possible theory, at least it was a ounce of hope to ride on. Pulled down from cloud nine by Shelby’s voice, he rubbed the bridge of his nose a bit while listening to him.
"No, I’m not a hacker… Granted, I’m sure there is some type of hacker club… I’m sure they wouldn’t mind helping if we could bribe them"
the young redhead liked to think of himself as somebody who thought of everything, but sometimes he just went out on a limb. of course, he'd try a old trick from his old school to get past school filters. You'd go through France's server then continue on your way. Granted, it was lucky Oliver knew enough French to get him around a basic webpage.
"so, do you know if we even have a library?"
it was something that Oliver had not seen since getting here, school libraries.

| If there was one thing Shelby learned from his time evading the law, it was that nothing was illegal if you didn't get caught. As far as he could tell the only way to access the place was by monorail or helicopter, meaning that it would take quite a bit for the police to get here even in small numbers. Unless someone goes out of their way to report something to the authorities, there was no way someone was going to get busted. Especially not with the tight control the people running this place had on communications. Everythig was monitored, and it made him sick.
Still he wasn't about to let all that get him down, and he didn't want to share such pessimistic thoughts at a time like this. Now was a time for positive thinking! Though it was disappointing to hear that his new friend wasn't some sort of amazing hacker. That would have been useful. "That's too bad. I'd rather not get involved with a whole group of shady guys. Not until I get to know them at least." Not only would it be expensive, but it was never a good idea to get too many people involved in your problems. Best to trust your close friends. Close friends like Oliver!
Shelby moved to scratch the back of his head, a look of confusion returning to his face. "You mean you didn't see one? I assumed you did." In truth he had never actually seen a library in person. Everyone in his neighborhood back home did everything digitally, so there wasn't much need for one. Of course he'd seen them in old movies and the such, so he was familiar with the concept. "Well if you didn't see one I don't think it exists. We're probably supposed to do all our studying and research on the terminals in our rooms." It was a shame, really. The only way he was ever going to study was as a way to socialize, so being force to do it in his room was...limiting.
Lips pressed into a flat line as he looked back at Oliver, blowing a huff of air through his nostrils. "I don't suppose you have any other ideas?" It was pretty clear the wind had been taken out of his sails. As far as he could tell there was just no way out of here. What a depressing thought.

GET OUT OF MY FACE
Ever since the twins came to the brilliant conclusion of splitting up, Juniper has been jogging through the endless maze of corridors in hopes of finding some sort of indication as to where their homeroom may be. While it would've been wise to at least try to gather some information from her peers, her pure stubbornness prevented the thought from even piercing her mind. The only cohesive thought in her mind was: who in the world even designed this building's layout? Was it some random drunk? Seriously, the hallways all looked the same and there are no signs or maps. It was more like a corn field than an actual school. "Hey you!" Her gruff voice echoed through the now empty hall, bouncing off the walls until eventually reaching her target: a nerdy loner.
Juniper stomped towards him, grinning at his frozen movements. Was he scared? Probably. "Do you know where this class is?" She shoved her schedule in his face, expecting geekzilla to direct her to her next class without any sort of problem. "Uh....I-I don't know." His answer immediately wiped the smirk off her face. Was he being serious, or is he just too scared to tell her? "What the fuck do you mean you don't know!" Juniper took a step closer, keeping her tone down to a hushed growl. If geekzilla was lying to her.... There were going to be consequences. Out of everything a person can do to her lying is certainly the most detestable. "I really don't know!" His voice quivered along with his trembling body. The sight immediately provoked another smirk out of Juniper. For her, seeing some else tremble with fear was always a delightful sight. It displayed her power over them, which is something she takes tremendous pride in. "Forget it."
There was no point in howling at him for answers. Instead, she just twirled back around and sauntered down the direction she was previously heading down. After about 5 more minutes of walking, she could hear a quiet conversation going on. Both voices were definitely male and....one of them belonged to Oliver?! The moment realization hit her, Juniper tip toed closer until eventually hitting earshot of their conversation. Were they talking about skipping? No way. There was absolutely no way that her brother was agreeing to ditch class with some stranger like this. She continued to stay still and listen a bit more, waiting for some sort of que to join. "Why don't we go to the forest?" Juniper slowly walked towards them, letting her idea sink in for a bit before continuing. "Wouldn't that be fun?" A hint of interest sparkled in her eyes - she knew her brother wouldn't agree to such a dangerous idea, but the addition of this stranger might've changed that.

Flipping out the lights, trying to survive this endless fight "No"
it would be strange if they didn't have a library, what kind of school doesn't have library? Well, suppose a crazy prison school for terrible children, but it still seemed a little odd to him.
stopping when he heard the voice of juniper, he glanced over. Did she find their homeroom? No! She wanted to explore the forest around the school, she likely didn't get any further than Oliver had...
"You didn't find homeroom by any chance, did you?"
Okay, he hoped that possibly she'd tell him where to go. Then those two could ditch and he could be in homeroom... Fat chance now, she wasn't going to give this information easily.
"also, do we know if there are even patrols in there?"
this area was likely well guarded, after all. Not that these two thought of that, but then again... It is why Oliver was here, to remind them of the fact this wasn't a typical high school.

| Shoulders drooped as Shelby slumped forward a bit, an overly dramatic way of expressing his disappointment. If a smart guy like this couldn't think of anything he was going to be forced to attend his classes. With a heavy sigh he stood up straight, a hand stuffing itself into his jacket pocket as he stared down the hall in thought. There just had to be a way to slip out of here undetected. There was no way their security was THAT tight.
The sudden introduction of a third party caught his attention, eyes immediately moving to lock on to Juniper. For a moment he was concerned about how long that guy was listening, but his suggestion replaced the concern with excitement. Shelby responded with a wide smile, the spark returning to his eye as he pointed a finger at the newcomer. "Yeah, the forest! Even if they did have security in there we could probably hide. Obscure our faces so they can't identify us! I like the way you think, pal." Finally, a fellow free spirit to help Oliver see the light of their cause.
When he turned to see Oliver's reaction to this new idea something suddenly clicked. Brows knit together as he looked between the two, gesturing between the two before speaking again. "You know you guys got a bit of resemblance going on. Brothers?" Shelby had to admit, having family here would have been pretty great. A shame he was the only delinquent in his pompous family. But more importantly for that moment, maybe having his brother there to nudge him in the right direction would be enough to convince Ollie to come along for the ride.

GET OUT OF MY FACE
Her thin lips curled into a the cruelest of smirks. While she deeply loved her nerdy brother, she couldn't help but find enjoyment in his desperate attempt to gather information from her. It was clear to see that he didn't find any excitement in skipping. It's a shame, really. Juniper could only imagine the radical adventures the two would go on if Oliver wasn't so reluctant about every damn thing. "Yeah, I got some directions from a geek." She lied, thrusting her thumb backwards. There was no way Juniper would be dumb enough to flat out admit that she failed to gather even a single bit of information. Rule number one: never reveal all of your cards. "I'll make sure to tell ya when we get to the forest." Juniper then wrapped one of her arms around Oliver's neck, grinning like devious child, enjoying every bit of their conversation.
Her eyes slowly drift onto the stranger. He seemed to be 100% into the idea exploring the forbidden forest rather than attend some monotonous homeroom class, which is something Juniper can respect. While she's a little iffy on the idea of him being Oliver's "new bud", due to violent nature most students in this school display, he seemed to be pretty okay. "Huh? Oh, yeah, we're just twins." Juniper explained, "And I'm a chick." The word "brothers" failed to evoke any sort of anger at this point. She was well aware of her misleading appearance and actually took pride in it. It's sort of an anti-fuckboy outfit, which is super helpful. "The name's Juniper." Rather than doing some bullshit handshake, she simply nodded at him, then continued to plan out their little escape. Masks could work, but that idea simply leads to the obvious 'where do we find masks?' question. "whaddya think, bro?"

Post by Min Xu on Feb 3, 2017 14:35:27 GMT
[attr="class","waywaybackground"] [attr="class","darkerbackground"] [attr="class","awesometext"]Fuck her life. This was so freaking frustrating. Goddamit, why her? Why her? Fuck her dead sense of direction. This was her 3rd year stuck in the deepest pits of hell, yet she still couldn't find her way around. Fuck whoever designed the building to look exactly the same as every other. In this instance, symmetry was an ass, rather than something she strived to achieve. Thanks to it, it seemed every day she was late to class. She always asked for directions but nobody ever actually showed her the way. She usually found herself stumbling upon her class. It had become a system most of the teachers had become use to. 10 minutes or so before the end of class, Min would burst in, rather disheveled and quite annoyed. She would apologize profusely and sit in the back to avoid the glares of her teachers. After class they would drop a large stack of papers on Min's desk, where she would take them with great reluctance. Then the whole cycle would repeat itself every single day.
Today she was wandering through crowded halls as usual. Well, half crowded anyways. Lost as always, she swore her classroom was somewhere near the area. But considering just how messed up her internal map was, 'somewhere near the area' probably referred to the other side of the building. She noticed both new and old students. Some of those newbies appeared quite confident. Idiots, the lot of them. The worst criminals lived in this building. Like a bunch of punks could survive one day here. Heh, it wouldn't be long. A week at the most for the most foolish. They would be shivering in fear quickly. Here, in Kessho, they were mere ants. Here, they were pale in contrast to the alphas. Even she, spitfire Min Xu, understood the need for tact when dealing with such people. That isn't to say she accepted their command. Her? Min Xu? Never. There was a difference between respect and submission, thank you very much!
"I'll make sure to tell ya when we get to the forest."
She halted. She didn't recognize the voice. Perhaps a new person? Yes, that seemed likely. It seemed there were something around three people. The voice- a girl's- her twin, and a stranger. Oh, it seemed her name was Juniper. Huh, there was something familiar about that name... Maybe it was just her. Eh? Masks? Why did they want masks? To keep from anyone recognizing them? Are they idiots or what? Perhaps she should offer them some free advice before they do something terribly stupid. Man, why is she even bothering? People these days are always looking to escape and land their asses in a pot full of trouble. Nonetheless... She might as well. It wasn't like she was going to be any earlier to class if she happened to pause for a moment.
She stepped forward and waved. What the hell was she doing?
"Ah, hi! You three are new, right? It's not worth encountering the Disciplinary Commitee or being sent to ISS, so I'd stay out of the forest," she warned cheerfully.

Flipping out the lights, trying to survive this endless fight "wearing masks? That sounds ridiculous, besides they likely have security cameras around... They'd see us putting them on at some point"
also, where would they get them in April?
oliver folded his arms and watched the two, of course they’d be all in for the idea of running around the forest. It screamed a bad idea, but they were not likely to listen… When Shelby mentioned if they were brothers, Oliver shot him a bit of a look. Somehow, it had always been obvious to Oliver that Juniper was female. Despite not being overly feminine in appearance, she was definitely a female.
"you know I think it's a bad idea, but I don't think your going to listen to me"
Juniper only listened if it meant something exciting. Exploring abandoned buildings, playing video games, ‘trolling’ guys on the internet, watching extremely gory horror movies, murdering their grandfather… Typical sibling bonding activities.
the new voice instantly caught Oliver's attention. Not to mention, she explained a great deal to them about the dangers of venturing into the forest. The girl must have been somebody who had been around for awhile.
"a voice of reason" Oliver mumbled under his breath, before glancing at Min Xu finally, maybe she hadn't been around that long? Oliver didn't think she looked as rough or tough as some students he had seen.
despite the warning, Oliver knew it was only time until he'd make his way into the forest with Juniper. They had to explore, likely after or between classes... Not in the middle of their first class.

| Twins? That made perfect sense. But this guy was a gal? Eyes narrowed into a squint as he leaned toward Juniper, looking her up and down for a moment before shrugging his shoulders and returning to his upright position. "Alright. I'll buy that. Name's Shelby, but you can call me Edge." He wasn't about to go around questioning her on this one. It was amazing how much a change in clothes and disguising her voice could throw him off. Maybe he should play closer attention to things around here. The IMPORTANT thing was that she agreed with him. Hopefully she was the one who wore the pants in their relationship and they could hurry to the forest before a hall monitor came along to spoil their fun.
"We don't NEED masks. Just keep your head down and..." He stopped mid sentence, the inherent flaw in that reasoning being clear. It was true that they were being recorded at just about every moment. In fact he wouldn't be surprised if someone was being sent over to break things up as they spoke. In that case they would just need to book it to avoid punishment for as long as possible. There was no way he was just falling in line and attending class like they wanted. He had to establish that he would not be controlled no matter what the cost.
The troublemaker jumped a bit as a fourth voice made itself known, this one more obviously female. Luckily for them she at least didn't look like a hall monitor. He turned to look at Min with a confident smile, index finger extending to wag at her. "That right there is quitter talk." He then looked between all three of them, making it clear he was addressing the entire group. "Can't you guys see it? They're trying to stifle us! Are you really going to let fear of punishment keep you from adventure? Cuz I sure as hell aint."
